Ice Climbing

Waterfall ice climbing in the Canadian Rockies offers some of the worlds best ice climbs. Canada boasts a long season, from November until April, and hundreds of easily accessible ice and mixed climbs. Multi-pitch classics such as Polar Circus, Weeping Wall and Professor's Falls are found here. Learn the movement skills and techniques necessary to succeed at a climb you have dreamed of. The huge number of climbs allows you to match the climb with the conditions; climb in the sun when it is cold or out of avalanche terrain when the hazard is high. Banff, Canmore, Lake Louise and hostels on the Icefield Parkway offer convenient bases from which to climb.

Mixed climbing involves climbing with ice axes and crampons, often starting on rock and finishing on ice or any combination of the two. Although this technique is not new, it has been demanded on alpine climbs for many years, it has seen a huge surge in popularity in recent years. New advances in equipment and techniques have allowed the difficulty of these climbs to increase dramatically. While some people pursue mixed climbing to further their technique in the alpine others see it as a sport in itself. Haffner Creek and other areas offer the perfect opportunity to learn these specialized techniques in a secure setting
